Reading Comprehension Focus: Central message
Students will be learning how to figure out the central message of a story. A central message is the big idea, or lesson about life, that the story teaches. It's what the author wants the reader to remember after they've read the text.

Math: Unit: Addition/Subtraction/Rounding/Perimeter
We are finishing up our math unit this week with learning about Perimeter. The students will be tested on this unit on Wednesday. We will be moving fractions as the next unit of study.
Perimeter Video
- Although we are currently learning about Perimeter, please continue to work on multiplication/division math facts at home. Multiplication must be practiced consistently in order to develop fluency. Master one fact at a time before moving on to the next fact. Research shows that students learn facts in this order: 1, 0, 10, 5, 2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 9, 7, 11, 12
- In order for student to become fluent in these skills, students should be working on their multiplication skills at home nightly.
- Computer Program- I have enrolled each student in Reflex Math fluency program. This program helps the students become more fluent in multiplication and division.
Science: We will are learning about plants structures this week.
Box Tops: Please send in box tops. We appreciate your supports!!! :-)
Vocabulary Parade: November 15th
Your child should have gotten information about the upcoming Vocabulary Parade. The goal is to learn and understand a new or creative word. Please include some type of sign with the word and definition as part of the costume. My class is not doing a theme so you are free to select any vocabulary word. The word choice samples in the packet that went home are great examples. I just ask that the word be a true vocabulary word vs. a very simple word such as happy, scared, dinosaur, clown, etc. Once you and your child decide on a word, fill out the paper and send back to me for word choice approval.
