Math:  Understanding Area
  • We are finishing up Area this week.  They have learned learning to connect area to multiplication.  We will test on Tuesday.
  • Although we are currently learning about area, please continue to work on multiplication/division math facts at home.  Multiplication must be practiced consistently in order to develop fluency. Master one fact at a time before moving on to the next fact. Research shows that students learn facts in this order: 1, 0, 10, 5, 2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 9, 7, 11, 12
  • In order for student to become fluent in these skills, students should be working on their multiplication skills at home nightly.
    • Computer Program- I have enrolled each student in Reflex Math fluency program.  This program helps the students become more fluent in multiplication and division.  The parent letter will go home tomorrow with login instructions.  They did get the login card today.
Math Home Project:  The students will be receiving information about a home math project on Monday.  This project is due October 14th.

Social Studies:
  • We are continuing our studying of geography. We are focusing on map skills, continents and oceans. The students will be tested on the location of the 7 continents and oceans.  The assessment will be October 4th.  Your child will get a study guide on Monday.
Science:  Our next unit in Science is the study of plants.  I hope to start this unit this week.
